5 Years

Today is our 5 year anniversary. I took my wife to Nakashima’s for sushi and Hibachi. While we were waiting for our table, I summed up the last 5 years.

  • …watched our oldest learn to ride a bike.
  • …potty-trained two kids.
  • …lost my Mom.
  • …lost my Grandmother.
  • …lost my Grandfather.
  • …got three new nieces and nephews (and one more on the way).
  • …experienced 9/11.
  • …had two elections.
  • …paid off three cars.
  • …moved me to a new job.
  • …survived two promotions in her job.
  • …started a small group.
  • …saw friends come to Christ.
  • …owned three Dell computers.
  • …saw Bucks, Badger, Brewers and TimberRattler games.
  • …went to Disney World twice.
  • …went on 4 reward trips.
  • …saw God work miracles in our lives.
  • …played Scrabble.
  • …dreamed of making banana bread.
  • …picked pumpkins.
  • …saw musicals.
  • …became sushi addicts.
  • …became JoToGo addicts.
  • …took the kids to Bay Beach.
  • …vacationed in Wisconsin Dells.
  • …taught our eldest how to ski.
  • …laughed.
  • …cried.
  • …yelled (mostly me).
  • …kissed.
  • …hugged.
  • …finally got a decent lawn.
  • …watched a lot of Barney.
  • …did some Sudoku.
  • …tormented each other with the Thanksgiving Bears.
  • …had lots of people over for dinner.
  • …hosted a cookie decorating party for a pack of 4-year-olds.
  • …flooded our house and shorted the fire alarm.
  • …spent nights apart.
  • …spent nights together.
  • …threw Christmas parties.
  • …welcomed strangers into our lives and became friends with them.
  • …folded some laundry.
  • …read “Green Eggs and Ham” and “Are You There, Baby Bear?”
  • …snuggled.
  • …smiled.
  • …took the kids to the zoo.
  • …encouraged one another.
  • …prayed.
  • …idolized Jim Cantore and Chad Moeller.
  • …cared for each other when we were sick.
  • …sponsored Shakira.
  • …grew closer together.
