Groundhog Day Resolutions

Groundhog Day is one month and one day past the beginning of the year. The craziness of the holidays and the bloat of overeating have subsided. The crappy gifts have been returned and all that stuff you couldn’t get done before the holidays are now squared away. Its time for Groundhog Day Resolutions!

I won’t go into a lot of detail about GHD Resolutions, because David Seah has already done a wonderful job in his post, Groundhog Day Resolutions. I think Mr. Seah has knocked the ball out of the park (as Americans would say) with his post. As an added benefit, he has also called for a monthly review of the resolutions on the month / day pair. For example, 3/3, 4/4 and 5/5 would be the review days for the following three months.

The best part of the GHD Resolution Methodology is that it fixes what I complained about in my post about last year‘s resolutions:

Like millions of other people, I make a pile of resolutions on the first of January. Like millions of other people, I go back to my regularly scheduled programming by the first of February.

Its time for a Groundhog Day reboot!

Groundhog Day Resolutions

During the holidays and the beginning of the new year, I jotted down a list of goals to consider. The list had 26 different items, and as a brainstorming list it covered a multitude of areas, spiritual, personal and professional. Because that volume of goals is overwhelming, I’ve narrowed it down to the top goals. I’ll list the goal statements below and I plan on expounding each of the goals in the future. And yes, the first few goals are repeats.

Be fit
I will lose weight and get into better shape so that I can keep up with my kids. I’ve already put some parts of this goal into place, but I need to sustain what I’m doing and add a regular exercise routine.
Write more
I will write more frequently and perhaps more extensively. I have already started this goal as well through a mostly-regular schedule of blog posts.
Business Development
Business Development probably deserves a post of its own. I will honor and complete the commitments I have made and I will grow my business through networking events and marketing.
Remember important annual events
For years my sister has emailed reminders of birthdays and anniversaries. While appreciated, I rarely even sent cards. As a way to stay connected with friends and family, I will remember birthdays / anniversaries and send a card.
Deliberate Dates
I will take my wife on a date once a month. I will deliberately spend time with each of the boys individually each week.
Be green
More of a soft goal, I would like to be more conscious of the environment and my impact on it. As stupidly simple as this sounds, I will start by pulling recyclable items out of the trash. I will “cache in, trash out” when Geocaching.

Happy Groundhog Day! See you in one month and one day!

Dude fertilize your lawn with Soy Beans!! Dude it’s all fake. The oil companies control everything. Like there is this guy that invented this car and it runs on water man. It’s got a fiberglass air-cooled engine and it runs on water……

I think I’ll start being more green by continuing to pick you up on Koreana for lunch days… my Trailblazer *has* to be more environmentally sound than what’s left of your Escort.
