Well, that was interesting…
I have a problem with Groundhog Day Resolution Reviews. Looking back at each month and re-evaluating my goals, I’ve felt very disconnected from them. It’s almost as if they weren’t my goals. I look at them each month, and they seem so foreign. I think it may be because I haven’t turned these goals into impactful, measurable goals. I don’t really look at the goals on a daily or weekly basis. It’s pretty anti-GTD, honestly. What this means is that each month I review my goals and they feel like they are always less than satisfying.
This month, though, I just flat out haven’t done anything. With good reason…
The font I use for my company’s logo is Nina Italics, a true type font created by Microsoft for use on handheld devices. It saves space by condensing the most characters per horizontal inch.
Last week I installed Office 2007, and by doing so, Nina Italics has been blown away. Nina? Check. Nina Bold? Yup. But no Italics or Italics bold.
Now I have the unfortunate job of figuring out which application installed it in the first place and getting it back. I’m going to guess its an old copy of Visual Studio or something. This isn’t going to be fun.
Meh. This post is almost a week late. Granted, I was on vacation last week, so I think I can use that as an excuse. What’s with hotels charging for internet access anyway? Bunch of savages.
Here’s my April 4th belated review of Groundhog Day Resolutions. It isn’t pretty. At all. I thought things looked bad at the beginning of March.
The goals
- Be fit
- The good news is the weight bench has been fixed. The bad news is I haven’t used it. With two weeks out for vacation, and the remainder of the time spent packing or unpacking from said vacations, I haven’t made the time to exercise. The ugly news is the four pounds I’ve gained by ignoring exercise and the diet.
- Goal status: Horrible.
- Write More
- Four posts total – that’s one per week.
- Goal status: Shameful.
- Remember important annual events
- There weren’t any annual events for me to remember in March. That keeps me from completely slipping into failed resolution hell.
- Goal status: Satisfactory
- Deliberate Dates
- This was the month for vacations. First, there was Cancun with The Wife. She and I left two days early for a work sponsored trip (her work). We spent time with two other couples and had a great time.
- Based on some free time I suddenly found myself with (my client decided to run out of budget), we took the kids on a spring break trip to Tampa. We got to the beach and Busch Gardens before it got cold and had a good time.
- Goal status: Satisfactory.
As I’m getting back into blogging again, I was going to write a post about my little group of friends and their blogs. It seems that Prust | Interactive is blogging his endeavors again. I’m glad to see that. Also, in the past week, My Financial Journey had the number one post on both del.icio.us and reddit and ended up on the front page of Digg with a post on a Frugal cure for a sore throat. Congrats!
Recently I’ve noticed a poor speech habit I’ve picked up. Using the word “so” as the start of a sentence. I might say, “So, do you want to order sushi?” Its a pretty bad habit that I’m noticing I do all. the. time. Even my writing is not exempt. I keep having to edit the “so”s out of blog posts.
I wonder if it isn’t a local colloquialism, as I listen to my own speech I hear others using it a lot as well. I think it may be a theoretically more intelligent-sounding way of getting the word “uh”.
It could be worse. We Wisconsinites could be tacking “or no” on the end as well.
So, do you want to order sushi, or no?
Instead of writing a blog post this morning, I decided to upgrade my blog to WordPress 2.1. It is supposed to have all these fancy new features, but I haven’t noticed them yet. Maybe that’s a good thing.
The point is, let me know if you notice any funkiness or improvements.
Groundhog Day is one month and one day past the beginning of the year. The craziness of the holidays and the bloat of overeating have subsided. The crappy gifts have been returned and all that stuff you couldn’t get done before the holidays are now squared away. Its time for Groundhog Day Resolutions!
When The Wife bought me an iPod a few years ago, she thoughtfully bought an FM transmitter so I could use it while I was driving. I liked the idea of not having cords but I never really got used to the transmitter. I found it difficult to find an empty frequency. Because of this, I’ve resorted to a cassette adapter instead.
Luckily, there is a site that can help find those pesky empty radio frequencies. Radio-Locator.com can show you what they are.

One thing I’ve always hated about portable technology is what’s required to keep devices charged and running. A few years ago, I heard about a cool wireless recharging technology on TechTV.
I guess the trendy thing bloggers do is summarize their year of blogging. Here’s mine:
