taste is in the tongue of the beholder

In Getting Things Done by David Allen, he recommends the occasional review of the high level priorities in your life. Mr. Allen uses altitude as a metaphor, where the Runway is your current list of actions and the 50,000-foot view is your goals for life. I’ve created my own hierarchy that looks like this: I look at this year as the longest timeframe. I have a general wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey feel   Read More ...

Groundhog Day Resolutions

In October, I started thinking about my goals for 2015. My goal setting hasn’t been good the last two years, especially in 2014 when my primary responsibility was taking care of my father as he battled cancer. We successfully repaired our relationship and I grew closer to him until the end. That’s a huge win in the important things, but left a lot of other potential untapped. Austin Kleon has a book out called “Show Your Work!“. It’s a follow up to his first book “Steal Like an Artist“. He says: …if Steal was a book about how to be more creative by stealing influence from others, Show is a book about how to influence others by letting them steal from you. Here are the ten points from the book: Three of these really strike a chord   Read More ...

I subscribe to a writing newsletter called The Write Practice, which encourages readers to practice the craft of writing every day with a daily post and prompt. Most of the time, I read the article and maybe write something else instead. Yesterday’s Photo Prompt was still sitting in my inbox this morning, and the picture posted with it called out to me: “Write about me!” Here is Annie’s Call: He   Read More ...

Josh played in the Fields of Terror lacrosse tournament with his True Lacrosse West Elite team. The guys were allowed to wear costumes while they played, and Josh wore a Batman cape. Soon the whole sideline was cheering for Batman.
